China and Germany are advancing their collaboration in business and technology, with innovations now being exchanged in both directions, a shift from the previous trend of primarily German influence on China. This development was highlighted in a joint research report unveiled at the China-Germany (China-Europe) Hidden Champions Forum 2026 in Beijing’s Shunyi district, attended by over 400 business leaders and executives from Europe and China.
The research indicates a strong intention among European firms to bolster their operations in China. Approximately 38 percent of these companies plan to enhance their research and development investments in the country. Moreover, 40 percent are considering granting more operational autonomy to their Chinese subsidiaries, moving away from a centralized management approach from their German headquarters.
Simultaneously, Chinese electric vehicle giants like Li Auto and NIO have been establishing research and design centers in Germany, exemplifying the increasing two-way technological exchange between the two nations. This growing collaboration not only underscores the mutual benefits but also signifies a more balanced partnership in terms of innovation and development.
The forum also saw the launch of a public service station aimed at assisting businesses in overcoming technical trade barriers. A new partnership initiative was introduced to encourage German and European companies to engage further with Beijing’s economic and technological cooperation zone in Shunyi. This initiative seeks to create a conducive environment for international business cooperation and technological advancements.
Tang Wenhong emphasized Beijing’s commitment to fostering these collaborations. The city aims to attract more innovative companies, thereby solidifying its status as a leading international hub for science and technology. This strategic focus is expected to enhance both countries’ positions in the global market, driven by shared expertise and innovative efforts.
