Lidl Hungary has significantly bolstered its logistics capabilities with the inauguration of a new logistics center in Kiskunfélegyháza, representing an investment of nearly 60 billion forints, or roughly €162 million. This facility, now the largest warehouse for Lidl in Hungary, is set to supply approximately 70 stores across the region. The expansive center spans more than 83,000 square meters and has already generated over 400 jobs, with plans to recruit around 50 more employees in the near future.
Equipped with 194 loading docks and a 24,000-square-meter refrigerated section, the logistics center is designed for efficiency and sustainability. Notably, it incorporates energy-efficient technologies, including a 9,000-square-meter rooftop solar installation. Additionally, the facility harnesses waste heat from its refrigeration system for underfloor heating, demonstrating Lidl’s commitment to eco-friendly operations.
Enhancing the site’s environmental credentials, Lidl has developed a 10,000-square-meter biodiverse green area surrounding the facility. This addition not only contributes to the local ecosystem but also underscores the company’s dedication to sustainable development practices.
The new center is poised to play a crucial role in strengthening Lidl’s supply network throughout Hungary, with an estimated 4,500 pallets of goods expected to depart from the facility daily. This expansion aligns with Lidl’s strategy to enhance its domestic operations, as the retailer currently operates 220 stores nationwide and sources nearly 60% of its products from Hungarian suppliers.
As Lidl continues to expand, this logistics hub is anticipated to support its growth and further establish its presence in the Hungarian market, ensuring efficient distribution and bolstering the company’s commitment to sourcing locally.
