Hungary has emerged as a dominant force in European water polo, topping the latest rankings for men’s teams and securing the second spot for women’s teams, as announced by European Aquatics. The rankings, which evaluate the performance of national teams across various tournaments over the past three years, highlight Hungary’s consistent excellence in the sport.
The Hungarian men’s team clinched the top position after consistently placing among the top six in all eight considered tournaments. Their notable achievements include winning silver medals at both the senior European Championship in Belgrade and the U16 European Championship in Istanbul. Following Hungary, Serbia, the European champions, secured the second position in the men’s rankings, with Spain taking third place.
In women’s water polo, the Netherlands retained their lead by successfully defending their European championship title in Funchal. Hungary followed closely in second place, while Spain secured the third spot in the rankings. This strong showing highlights the competitive nature of women’s water polo in Europe.
The comprehensive evaluation by European Aquatics also produced a combined ranking, which takes into account the performance of both men’s and women’s teams. Hungary topped the overall standings, demonstrating their prowess in both categories. Spain and Greece followed in second and third places, respectively, underscoring their strength in European water polo.
