Greek Citizen Protection Minister Michalis Chrysochoidis and Turkish Interior Minister Mustafa Ciftci convened in Athens to advance security cooperation and address cross-border crime. The meeting took place at Greece’s Ministry of Citizen Protection and followed a significant gathering at the Greece–Türkiye Supreme Cooperation Council in Ankara earlier this year.
The discussions primarily centered on joint efforts to combat organized crime, terrorism, extremism, human trafficking, and drug smuggling. Both ministers emphasized the need to dismantle criminal networks exploiting undocumented migrants and curtail money laundering linked to illegal activities. Chrysochoidis stressed the importance of enhancing information sharing and operational coordination between Greek and Turkish security agencies, while also voicing concerns about Turkish nationals allegedly associated with criminal groups operating within Greece.
Ciftci expressed satisfaction with the current level of cooperation and advocated for expanding their collaborative efforts, particularly in fortifying security measures and disrupting criminal organizations involved in human trafficking.
This meeting signifies ongoing efforts by Greece and Türkiye to strengthen collaboration on mutual security challenges, even as long-standing differences between the two nations persist. Both countries continue to seek common ground in addressing these pressing issues, underscoring a commitment to improved bilateral relations.
