Germany has voiced its support for Montenegro’s efforts to join the European Union, highlighting the country’s advancements in the EU accession process. German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul commended Montenegro’s progress during discussions with Montenegrin Foreign Minister Ervin Ibrahimovic.

The meeting, which took place as part of the Berlin Process in Montenegro, also involved EU Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos and focused on regional cooperation, reconciliation, and necessary reforms. Wadephul emphasized that Montenegro’s journey toward EU membership could serve as an example for other nations in the Western Balkans region.

For over two decades, Montenegro has been working toward EU membership, positioning itself among several Western Balkan countries seeking to join the bloc. The nation is committed to completing its accession process and becoming an EU member in the foreseeable future.

Wadephul stated that countries meeting the EU’s membership criteria and demonstrating continued reform efforts should be given a clear path to join the EU. This endorsement from Germany underscores Montenegro’s dedication to aligning with EU standards and its potential role as a regional leader in the integration process.
